Findlay Brown is a Yorkshire born, Brooklyn based singer-songwriter and producer. He grew up in the countryside and sold his Grandfathers Beatles autographs to buy his first guitar. Findlay is a modern day troubadour. His music is melodic, gentle and intimate drawing on influences from the rural settings where he grew up. His songs are metaphoric often using nature’s imagery to illustrate the inner conflict in the search for a more truthful way of living.
His first solo album Separated By the Sea (2007) Peacefrog, was a critically acclaimed release, receiving high praise such as Five Stars in the Guardian newspaper, whose music columnist hailed it as: “the most unlikely classic of the year”, while the international music magazine Mojo said the album “Sets the benchmark for gorgeous troubadour folk.” The single Loosing the Will to Survive (2007) earned Brown playtime on the prestigious Radio 1 in the UK with support from radio hosts Zane Lowe and Jo Whiley.
Findlay released Promised Land (2010) a 10” gold vinyl cover of Joe Smooth’s House hit on the French label, Record Makers, with remixes from Pilooski and Acid Washed among others.
Love Will Find You (2010) Verve, was Findlay’s highly anticipated second solo album, produced by Bernard Butler with an epic, Phil Spector wall of sound production and likened to the 50s and 60s pop crooners Roy Orbinson and Scott Walker. Soon after the US release on Verve Forecast Findlay moved to New York and appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman. He did a nationwide tour of America.“Full of gorgeous melodies and lush, organic instrumentation” - LA Times, “Findlay proves he is a craftsman and a chameleon”. Critic’s Choice - New York Times.
Slow Light (2015) DPC Records, is Findlay Brown’s 3rd solo album release.
Melancholic and heartfelt Slow Light goes beyond folk. To his fans it marks a return to the more intimate stripped down nature ofSeparated by The Sea, but with cinematic and epic elements. Co-produced with Danish producer Tobias Wilner with influences drawing from Minimalist music, Sound Tracks, African Music and classic song-writing, the sound is glacial and filmic, yet manages to remain personal.
Findlay Brown has toured and collaborated with: Bat for Lashes, Beyond the Wizard Sleeve, Lovefingers, Fionn Regan, Bert Janch, John Renbourne, Alberta Cross, Au Revoir Simone, Bernard Butler, Sleepy Jackson, Simon Lord, Richard Swift, Taylor Swift, Passenger, Duffy, Barbarossa, Paul Weller, Angus and Julia Stone, at the Warchild Benefit Concert at Brixton Academy with PetShop Boys, Lilly Allen, Brendon Benson and Keane.
