Facebook

  • Facebook should be like an official newsfeed for everything
    • All major announcements
    • All information about touring
    • Links to other socials and albums
  • Best practice 2-4 posts a week at most
    • 1 of those should be promo (if applicable)
    • Live photos do really well
    • Anything with music does well
    • Ok to do less on Facebook as we want a little mystery. Focusing on music and vibes here would be great.
  • All posts should have some type of media
    • Photo
    • Video
    • Link (less well, as Facebook tends to suppress links out to places that aren’t Facebook)
  • Facebook native videos always do extremely well
    • Make videos specially for Facebook
    • Official videos should at least have teasers uploaded directly to Facebook
  • Best time to post is around Noon

  • Facebook Live is your best friend!
    • Should be at least 10 min
    • Make sure to talk to people when they are commenting
    • Playing music does very well, people share and it gets huge engagement and view
  • https://live.fb.com/

instagram

  • 4-6 posts a week
    • Don’t post too close together, two photos by the same person in a row is totally annoying in your feed
  • You already have a pretty lovely voice on Instagram, YAY!
    • Most personal of the socials
    • Give fans a look into your day to day life
    • The prettier the image, the more you’re reward
  • Don’t port all posts from Instragram to Facebook, otherwise engagement on Facebook will get low! You also want some stuff just for Instagram, giving people a reason to follow both.
  • Hashtag everything applicable in a photo
    • This helps you be found by people who like stuff you like in the ”Explore” section

  • Follow brands, artists, and people that you want to be associated with you- this also helps you be found in the “Explore” section
  • Remember to tease content and creation of music while in the studio- fans love to see that things are coming soon!

  • Use Instagram “Stories” often – they disappear after 24 hours and are on the top of the feed! It’s a great way to remind people of announcements and not be too up in people’s feeds. Use this like you would use your personal Snapchat
  • When you use “Instagram Live” it is the first thing people see when checking their insta! You can use this in a similar way to Facebook Live.

twitter

  • Twitter is the loudest platform, you can post here as much as you want
  • A good mix of little thoughts and day to day stuff works best on Twitter
  • Promo on Twitter doesn’t last long, don’t worry about tweeting it out regularly
  • Engaging with fans is easiest on Twitter – go through now and again and favorite or re-tweet people who are talking about you. People love this and it helps create the sense of a fan community.
  • Engage with conversations that are happing on Twitter – but only if you have something to say! This often results in new follows.
  • Follow artists, brands and publications that you want to be associated with – this helps you come up as a “suggested” account when people are browsing around.

Soundcloud

  • Hashtags are the main way Soundcloud ques what’s up next for listeners. Make sure to hashtag with more than just your name but the genre and sub-genre as well.
  • Playlisting and sharing tracks is something that Soundcloud loves and also helps the algorithm figure out what you’re like so share friends tracks and tracks that you like!

Spotify

  • Playlisting is something that Spotify loves and it also helps their algorithm figure out what you’re like so it’s a great idea!
  • A couple of playlists that you add to are much better than a lot of playlists that are static
  • Encourage people to follow and save your songs, this is how Spotify knows if a song is doing well and a quick uptick can go a long way in helping get discover playlisting.
