LYDIA KRUMPER // PUBLICIST
Artist and filmmaker Beth B has been creating transgressive and transformative work for more than four decades. She emerged in late-70s New York City as a leading provocateur of the No Wave scene—an underground movement whose name wryly subverted the mainstream “New Wave” of popular culture. B has been a boundary-breaker, a true and talented iconoclast. She has defined new ways by which film, photography, sculpture, and theater can be deployed to tackle the critical issues of our age.
Over the course of her prolific career, B has directed more than 30 films spanning documentary, experimental, and narrative forms, while continually returning to her Interdisciplinary roots. Collaboration remains central to her practice, reflected in her intimate film portraits of Lydia Lunch and Ida Applebroog, as well as her ongoing creative partnership with musician Jim Coleman, known for his work with Cop Shoot Cop and Human Impact.
Beth B has exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Le Centre Pompidou, the Hayward Gallery, the Wexner Center, Deitch Projects, PPOW and many other museums and galleries. Her films have shown at film festivals including the Berlin International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Locarno Film Festival, SXSW, DOC NYC, and IFFR.
