At just twenty-four years old, Sophia de Reeder is publishing her debut novel, and it’s not what you’d expect. Known to some as her musical stage name, Sophia Skye, she has spent the last ten years writing and performing alternative-country music with her band, Cash & Skye. Inspired by the likes of Dolly Parton, Hank Williams, and Patsy Cline, the music she plays would suggest she wrote either a gun-slinging western or tell-all music biography. Instead, she wrote a fantasy novel, filled to the brim with witches, knights in shining armor, and enough romance to leave you swooning. And she’s only just getting started.

Between concerts, shifts at the local bookstore, and college writing classes at Sarah Lawrence College, Sophia began working on a story, inspired by her love for campy 80’s fantasy movies such as The Princess Bride and Labyrinth, as well as the growing “romantasy” craze sweeping across the literary world. CALLOW, the first book in a planned duology, follows a wayward heiress stumbling through her early twenties, until the shock of her younger sister’s disappearance alters the course of her life forever. Desperate to retrieve her, she forms a potentially lethal alliance with an imprisoned witch who asks for only one price: blood. Full of adventure, mystery, and plenty of heart, CALLOW is a whimsical, escapist page-turner for fans of authors such as Rachel Gillig, Stephanie Garber, Adalyn Grace, and Alix E. Harrow. While this may be her debut, you can certainly expect more books from Sophia de Reeder in the coming years, including CALLOW’s highly anticipated sequel.
